Hedge Planting in Norbury Park

Leatherhead company, CGI, as part of its “No Planet B” initiative to plant 8,00 native trees and shrubs around its UK offices has donated locally sourced hedging shrubs to Surrey Wildlife Trust.

In this area the shrubs and trees are being used to fill the gaps in the hedge that runs along Phoenice Fields in Norbury Park.

In a  joint initiative the BRA Tree Wardens, lead by Frances Fancourt and Zoe Channon from Surrey Wildlife Trust ran the planting session on the 18th December to get just shy of 200 hedge whips planted up, along with stakes and rabbit guards. A general conservation mix was used containing hawthorn, buckthorn, blackthorn, hazel and field maple etc.

Despite the rain, volunteers from CGI helped with the planting, some of whom are also Bookham residents.

There is more to do there and hopefully more opportunities will come along to further this project.

An excellent collaborative effort with a local company working with local community groups to enhance our environment and countryside.

Well done team!
