Last Chance Trees

This winter is your final opportunity to request free trees for your roadside verge from Surrey County Council (SCC). The long‑running scheme — part of SCC’s pledge to plant 1.2 million trees, one for every Surrey resident — is now close to its target and will not continue after this year. With SCC due to transition into two new Unitary Councils, the offer is unlikely to return.

Residents can apply here: https://customer.surreycc.gov.uk/planting-on-the-highway

You can request one or more trees, and in many cases choose the species. SCC will assess the verge for suitability and carry out planting this autumn/winter. In return, residents are asked to water and care for the young trees: regularly for the first three years, and during hot or dry spells thereafter. Around 70% of the water should go down the tube to the roots, with 30% on the soil surface for the upper root system.

The trees supplied are excellent quality, professionally planted with stakes and watering tubes — a genuine enhancement for your street and a meaningful contribution to local climate resilience.

If you’d like a tree, apply now. It’s a simple way to beautify your road and support the environment.
