A New Chapter

St Nicolas Church will soon be entering a moment of both gratitude and transition. After 18 years of dedicated ministry, Rector Alan Jenkins will be retiring at the end of January 2027. Alan, together with his wife Suzie, has given extraordinary service to St Nicolas and to the wider Great Bookham community — offering leadership, care, stability, and a deep pastoral presence that has shaped parish life for nearly two decades. Their contribution has been immense, and they will be missed more than words can easily capture.

As we prepare to wish them well in their next season, we must also turn our attention to the future. The process of appointing a new Rector will begin shortly, and during this time the parish will enter an interregnum, or vacancy period. These phases are always significant moments in the life of a church — times to reflect, to pray, to organise, and to look ahead with hope.

To help keep everyone informed, St Nicolas Church has created a dedicated page where updates, resources, and information about the recruitment process will be shared as they become available. You can find it here:

The Bookham Residents Association will also share key updates on this blog as the journey unfolds.

On behalf of St Nicolas Church,

Gill Caldwell Assistant Minister St Nicolas Church, Great Bookham
